Banker in Germany quits job to start chicken farming business
A bank employee in Germany quit his job and started a chicken rental business, writes Bild.

59-year-old Rüdiger Gertner radically changed his life five years ago - he quit his job at the bank and started renting out chickens. According to the man, this idea came to him as a child.

“We always had chickens in our family. I noticed that watching these creatures gives a person peace of mind. I wanted to share this feeling with others,” he says.

The man started his business with four chickens and a rooster, but now he owns 20 birds.

“My girls — as I call them, they are very trusting — love to cuddle and are used to people,” says Rüdiger.

According to him, the demand for renting chickens has unexpectedly increased. “For many customers, chickens have become a real antidepressant — they drive away loneliness and bring joy,” says Gertner.

The business model is as follows: Gertner takes chickens to customers in a mobile aviary and teaches them how to care for them. Renting four birds for two weeks costs 220 euros — during which time the eggs they lay become the customer’s. Discounts are available for social institutions.
