Putin arrives in China for an official visit

Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in the People's Republic of China for an official visit. The head of state was welcomed at Beijing Capital International Airport by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

It is reported that Putin's negotiations with Chinese leader Xi Jinping will take place today, May 20. During the meeting, the parties will discuss bilateral relations between Russia and China, strategic cooperation, and pressing issues on the international agenda.

According to official information, this visit is organized to mark the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation. Therefore, this trip holds symbolic significance for Moscow-Beijing relations.

The two leaders will also attend the grand opening ceremony of the Russia-China Years of Education for 2026–2027. This initiative aims to expand cooperation in education, science, cultural exchange, and youth affairs.

At the end of the meeting, a high-level Joint Statement is expected to be adopted, and a number of intergovernmental, interdepartmental, and other bilateral documents are planned to be signed.

During his visit, Putin will also hold a meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang. The focus is expected to be on trade and economic relations, investment cooperation, and future directions between the two countries.

It is noted that a few days ago, US President Donald Trump also visited China. The Russian side emphasizes that Putin's trip to Beijing is not related to Trump's visit.

In short, Putin's visit to China is assessed as an important diplomatic step aimed at further activating political, economic, and strategic dialogue between Moscow and Beijing. In the current global situation, such meetings are not just protocol, but also a major political signal.
