New record set on Mount Everest in one day

A new record was set as 274 climbers reached the summit of Mount Everest in a single day. According to Reuters, this is the highest number of successful ascents in a single day.
Rishi Bhandari, general secretary of the Nepal Expedition Operators Association, stated that the climbers took advantage of favorable and clear weather. The previous record was set in 2019, when 223 climbers reached the summit.
This year, Nepal issued 494 permits to climb Everest. Each permit is valued at $15,000.
The climbing season on Everest started slightly late this year due to the risk of ice cover. Hundreds of climbers are expected to attempt to conquer the 8,848-meter peak before the season ends.
