Tax officials caught taking bribes in Tashkent

A corruption case involving tax inspection officials has been uncovered in the Bektemir district of Tashkent. An operational event conducted by the State Security Service and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes put an end to bribery activities.

It is reported that a department head at the Bektemir district tax inspection demanded 4 million soums from a local entrepreneur. This sum was allegedly requested in exchange for not filing an administrative report and not referring the case to court regarding a complaint that the entrepreneur failed to provide a sales receipt to a customer.

During the operation, the suspects were caught red-handed while the money was being received through an inspector. This served as the basis for initiating investigative actions.

During the pre-investigation check, another incident was identified. According to reports, the same inspector had previously received 1.5 million soums in April of this year to "overlook" another complaint related to the same store.

Such incidents negatively affect the business environment. When a representative of a regulatory body pursues personal gain instead of upholding the law, it undermines the trust of honest entrepreneurs.

The issue of issuing sales receipts must be handled according to established legal procedures. If a rule is broken, official measures should be taken. However, when this process becomes a matter "closed" through bribery, trust in the system diminishes.

A criminal case has been initiated regarding this situation. Investigative actions are ongoing. The issue of guilt will be determined after a legal assessment by the court.

In short, the bribery activities of tax officials in the Bektemir district have been exposed. It was found that 4 million soums were demanded, and 1.5 million soums had been taken previously. Now the case is under investigation — seeking "additional income" in public service always ends this way.
