Google allows users to create their own AI-powered clones

Elias Roman, VP of Product at Google Labs, unveiled a new “avatar” feature for the Flow service at the annual Google I/O conference. Flow is a tool that allows users to create and edit videos and images using AI. Now, content creators can scan their appearance to create an accurate digital clone and insert it into any generated video clip. This is reported by Ixbt.com reports .

According to Elias Roman, this feature was developed for creators who want to appear on camera but do not want to spend time on real filming processes. Such digital copies will be available for use not only within Flow but also in the Gemini ecosystem and on the YouTube platform. The new Omni Flash model, which has replaced the Veo neural network, serves as the main technical engine for the updated service. It enriches frames with rich details and eliminates issues related to facial distortion.

The process of creating a personal avatar is very simple: the user scans a QR code via smartphone, reads a sequence of numbers aloud as prompted by the system, and turns their head in different directions. Google has set strict restrictions: only one's own digital copy can be created; using the likeness of other people is prohibited. Additionally, all such videos will be marked with a SynthID invisible digital watermark.

This technology is similar to the solutions Meta developed for Instagram Reels, but Google offers it with greater creative freedom. While this means maximizing the simplification of the production process for content creators, various debates are expected to arise among the audience regarding the increase in such “fake” content.
