Former Real Madrid star Robinho has been sentenced to 9 years in prison for gang rape. He spent the first year in a cell in Brazil's Tremembe prison.
This place is different from ordinary, not very secure prisons where famous people are kept.
The former footballer's lawyers continue to appeal, but so far there has been no result. The Brazilian can achieve a reduction in his sentence through community service: 12 hours of work will reduce his sentence by 1 day.
In prison, Robinho repairs radios and televisions, tends to the garden, plays soccer in boots and reads books. His relatives bring him food, clothes, games and magazines once a month. Robinho also has a cellmate who is serving a 22-year sentence.
Robinho is called a "model prisoner" in prison. Due to his excellent behavior, the 41-year-old Brazilian hopes for conditional release.
There are four other defendants in the case, but they have all managed to hide. Robinho's former bodyguard was found dead this week.
