The president of the famous Catalan club — Barcelona Joan Laporta expressed sharp criticism towards FIFA regarding the international match calendar. This discontent was caused by the injury of the team’s winger Rafinha during a friendly match against France. According to available information, the Brazilian footballer will be out of the field for approximately 5 weeks.
Laporta openly called this situation “shameful” and drew attention to the density of the international football schedule. He emphasized that FIFA should reconsider the calendar, taking into account the interests of players who play for major clubs.
“Rafinha’s injury is an absolutely unacceptable situation. In a simple friendly match, one of our leading players got injured. Of course, this makes us very angry,” said the club president.
He also stressed that blaming the players is incorrect. “They are professionals and give all their strength for their countries. The problem is in the schedule. Especially at the decisive stage of the season, such a tight calendar causes serious difficulties,” Laporta added.
According to the club president, right now, as Barcelona competes for top results in all competitions, the injury of a key player can seriously affect the team’s plans.
