Meet the Mercedes-AMG GT EV: 1169 HP and V8 Sound

The new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé is the sports brand's first dedicated EV and the most powerful model in company history. Expected to go on sale in the UK in September for approximately £150,000, the electric sedan range will be led by the GT 63 model. With 1169 hp and over 2000 Nm (1475 lb ft) of torque, the car reaches 0-100 km/h in just 2.4 seconds, with a top speed of 300 km/h. This is reported by Autocar.co.uk reports.
Rivaling models like the Porsche Taycan and Lotus Emeya, this low-profile car's design is inspired by the 2022 Vision AMG and 2025 GT XX concepts. It is the first model built on the new AMG.EA electric platform, which will also underpin a future super-SUV currently being developed at the Affalterbach headquarters. At 5.94 meters long, 1.96 meters wide, and 1.4 meters tall, the new GT 4-Door Coupé is slightly longer and taller than its main rival, the Taycan.
Although the car weighs 2460 kg, AMG engineers have managed to lower the center of gravity even further than the 2018 petrol-powered GT 4-Door Coupé, thanks to compact electric motors and low battery placement. The new model's powertrain consists of three axial-flux motors developed in collaboration with Yasa, a Mercedes-Benz subsidiary. These motors are produced at a dedicated plant in Berlin.
The use of axial-flux motors marks a departure from the traditional radial-flux motors found in Mercedes-Benz EVs. In the new technology, the electromagnetic flux moves parallel rather than perpendicular to the motor shaft, allowing for a flat, disc-shaped design. As a result, the motors are much more compact: each rear motor is approximately 80 mm wide, while the front motor is 90 mm.
