Iraola jokes about expecting a gift from Arteta

Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola made an interesting comment after the match against Manchester City. The Premier League Matchday 37 clash ended in a 1-1 draw, a result that allowed Arsenal to mathematically secure the title.
After the match, journalists asked Iraola if he was expecting a gift from Mikel Arteta, as Bournemouth taking points from City proved decisive for the London club.
Iraola responded to the question with a joke.
“It would be great to get something! I haven't even checked my phone — maybe there's at least one message or something like that. But this title isn't just because of this game. They would have settled the matter themselves anyway,” the manager said.
The Spanish coach thus emphasized that it is not right to attribute Arsenal's title solely to Bournemouth's result. In his opinion, Arteta's team showed consistency throughout the season and deserved the trophy.
With one round left, Arsenal leads the Premier League table with 82 points. Manchester City remains in second place with 78 points, mathematically losing their chance for the title.
This result became a huge celebration for Arsenal fans. The London club won the English championship after a long hiatus. Bournemouth, albeit indirectly, became the team that influenced the fate of the title.
In short, Iraola joked, but also spoke the truth: Arsenal won the title not with one game, but with their hard work throughout the season. However, it wouldn't be bad if Arteta sent a gift — after all, there is such a thing as a “thank you bonus” in football.
