Bayern Season Review: Two top performers and an unexpected disappointment

Although Bayern secured a domestic double in Germany, they suffered a dramatic defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semi-finals. Following the 2019 double and the historic sextuple in 2020, the Munich club experienced a slight dip from their high standards. Excluding the trophy-less 2024 season, the record champions have won the Bundesliga every year, but luck eluded them in other tournaments. Now, they have returned to the Berlin throne, winning both the league title and the DFB-Pokal. This is reported by Goal.com .
Throughout the season, only the Champions League exit and the sole defeat against Augsburg in late January remained as blots on Bayern's record. Otherwise, it was a formidable season built around two leading players. However, one of the team's highest-paid stars failed to perform as expected and became the year's biggest disappointment. Note: players with less than 600 minutes played were excluded from the ranking.
Manuel Neuer experienced both heroics and errors throughout the season. The Munich captain made spectacular saves against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League group stage and in the first leg of the quarter-final against Real Madrid. However, his costly error in the return leg against Real Madrid proved decisive. Despite missing several matches due to muscle injuries, including the DFB-Pokal final, his overall efficiency remained high. Rating: 2.5.
The 22-year-old goalkeeper (Daniel Peretz), who played more than expected due to Neuer's injuries, proved himself in matches against Eindhoven and Wolfsburg. He is now seen as the team's primary successor. In the defensive line, Dayot Upamecano significantly improved his game under Vincent Kompany. The French defender eliminated errors, returned to the ranks of the world's best, and earned a new contract until 2030. Rating: 2.
