Universal Music Group and TikTok reach agreement against AI

Universal Music Group (UMG) and TikTok have announced the renewal of their licensing agreement. This deal aims to remove unauthorized AI-generated music from the platform and protect the copyrights of artists and songwriters. This is reported by Techcrunch.com reports .

According to a UMG statement, the new agreement focuses on supporting human creativity and ensuring fair distribution of revenue from the platform. TikTok and UMG will work together to remove unauthorized AI content and improve the attribution system for creators.

This partnership marks a significant turning point in the relationship between the two giants. In early 2024, UMG temporarily removed its music catalog from the platform, accusing TikTok of failing to adequately protect copyrights. As a result of this dispute, millions of videos were left without music, forcing TikTok to reconcile with major labels.

The music industry has been deeply concerned in recent years about AI tools that mimic artists' voices and manipulate algorithms. For example, fake tracks created with the voices of stars like Drake and The Weeknd were streamed millions of times, causing a major stir. The new agreement is expected to serve as a model for other tech companies in protecting intellectual property.

TikTok, for its part, is trying to prove it is a beneficial partner for the music industry. The "TikTok for Artists" platform, launched last year, allows artists to promote their work and access analytical data. Now, tighter control over AI content will further strengthen the rights of creators.
