Spotify now offers magazine articles in audio format

Spotify has launched a new feature to strengthen its position in the audio space. Users can now listen to long-form articles from prestigious magazines via the app. This feature is included for Premium subscribers within their monthly 15-hour audiobook listening limit. This was reported by Techcrunch.com reports .

Currently, the platform hosts over 650 articles from popular publications such as Rolling Stone, The Atlantic, Vogue, Variety, Billboard, and Wired. For now, this content is available only in English, and free users can purchase each article individually for $1.99. According to Spotify representatives, the articles are narrated by both human voices and artificial intelligence (digital voice).

Through this move, the company aims to habituate users to long-form audio content beyond music and podcasts. This will serve to increase the profitability of the audiobook segment in the future. Colleen Prendergast, head of Spotify Audiobooks licensing, noted that short-form content helps build healthy listening habits in users.

In recent weeks, Spotify has announced a series of innovations in the field of artificial intelligence. These include AI-generated podcasts similar to Google NotebookLM, audiobook creation tools for authors, and AI covers. The new article feature is also part of a strategy aimed at enriching the platform's overall audio ecosystem.
