
A museum dedicated to the history and culture of homelessness has opened in St. Petersburg, Russia. RIA Novosti reports. The new museum aims to show the lifestyle of homeless people in different eras, as well as to help people who find themselves in difficult situations.
About the museum
Visit to the museum is only possible with excursion groups. The funds from tickets are used to pay the salaries of museum staff and support the homeless.
The exhibition covers the history of homelessness from ancient times to the end of the 20th century. Five characters are presented here:

10th century hermit Kalika – a pilgrim who traveled to Jerusalem after the Christianization of Russia.

Prisoner during the reign of Peter I – a prisoner who escaped from Siberia.

A 19th-century night shelter resident is a resident of buildings in cities where homeless people found shelter.

A homeless person in the USSR reflects the problems associated with homelessness in the Soviet system.
Homeless people of the 1990s – people who lived in difficult economic conditions after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Exhibits and cultural events
According to the initiators of the museum, the exhibits were collected from various sources over a period of more than a year. In addition, the museum is constantly developing and enriched with new items.
The museum also serves as a venue for:
- Film screenings,
- Photo exhibitions,
- Thematic lectures,
- Scientific events dedicated to the problem of homelessness.
Meetings with people who have overcome the difficulties of homelessness and started a new life are also organized here.
Ticket prices and visiting hours
Currently, the entrance fee to the museum is 650 rubles per person. Excursion services are included in the price. Once the museum is fully equipped, the ticket price may increase to 850 rubles.
According to the organizer Andrei Borodin, there is no system of discounts for visitors, but for war veterans, admission is free.
The museum of "homeless people" opened in St. Petersburg has not only historical and educational significance, but also aims to provide social assistance. The museum aims to draw public attention to the problem of homelessness, study its history and causes, and create an environment for helping people in difficult situations.
