Italian football federation president resigns after failure

Gabriele Gravina has resigned from his position as the president of the Italian Football Federation. According to sports journalist Fabrizio Romano, this decision comes after the Italian national team failed to qualify for the World Cup for the third consecutive time.

The national team's head coach, Gennaro Gattuso, is also expected to step down from his role in the near future following the disappointing results.

Italy lost their chance to participate in the 2026 World Cup after a heartbreaking defeat against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the playoff final. The match ended in a 1:1 draw, but the Italian squad was defeated 1:4 in the penalty shootout.

The national team last competed in a World Cup tournament in 2014. Despite their recent struggles, Italy remains one of the most successful teams in football history, having won the World Cup four times in 1934, 1938, 1982, and 2006.
