José Mourinho returns to Real Madrid: club pays release clause for Portuguese coach

José Mourinho is on the verge of returning to the helm of Real Madrid after a long hiatus. The Madrid side has paid the release clause in the contract with Benfica to bring back the Portuguese tactician, who left the club 13 years ago. This is reported by Goal.com reports.
According to Sky Sport Italia, the Spanish giants paid a 3 million euro release clause on Monday to terminate Mourinho's contract with the Lisbon club. This step was a decisive phase in Florentino Pérez's plan to bring the coach known as "The Special One" back to Madrid.
Mourinho won La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Supercopa de España with Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013. Negotiations between the coach's agent, Jorge Mendes, and the club's management have progressed rapidly in recent days.
According to reports, the parties have reached a verbal agreement on a two-year contract. Pérez sees Mourinho as the primary candidate to start a new era for the team, which finished the current season without trophies and behind Barcelona in the league.
