Rostelecom launches remote management system for millions of routers

Rostelecom has applied to include its "Leshiy Connect" platform, designed for mass remote management of home routers and modems across Russia, in the national software registry. This solution allows the operator to centrally update firmware, configure settings, and diagnose issues without user intervention. This was reported by Ixbt.com reporting states.
The system's key feature is automatic interaction with equipment via the TR-069 protocol. Routers connect to the platform independently and receive commands. This means all updates and settings are performed in the background, unnoticed by users, and without requiring knowledge of device login credentials.
Rostelecom representatives explain that the system's implementation is driven by the need to improve cybersecurity and network stability. Home routers remain a major vulnerability: their compromise allows attackers to intercept internet traffic, from personal data to smart home controls. "Leshiy Connect" is expected to mitigate these risks through regular updates.
The project scale is one of the largest in the industry: it is planned to bring 50% of subscriber devices under this system's control by 2026, and nearly 7 million routers by 2027. The new platform replaces the previously used foreign Axiros solution and is part of an import substitution strategy.
The company explains the system name with a unique metaphor: just as the legendary "Leshiy" (forest spirit) monitors order in the forest, this system is intended to monitor the "health" of the ecosystem of millions of routers. In the future, other telecom operators may also use this solution.
