Real Madrid presidential candidate warns about club privatization

Enrique Riquelme, a candidate for the Real Madrid presidency, emphasized that the upcoming elections could be the last chance for club members to have their say. According to the businessman, if a viable alternative to the current leadership is not found, there is a risk that the Spanish giant will move toward privatization. This is reported by Goal.com .

In an interview with Expansión, Cox Group executive president Enrique Riquelme made a sensational statement regarding the future of Real Madrid. He expressed concern that the club is moving away from its traditional model. It is known that last year, Florentino Perez announced plans to sell a portion of the club to investors, which is a major change for a member-owned club.

"This could be the last election in Real Madrid's history because the privatization process is approaching. It is our moral and ethical duty to ensure the club remains in the hands of its members," said Riquelme. He is currently working on formalizing his candidacy and presenting the best project by Saturday.

Although the path to the presidency is very difficult due to strict rules such as financial guarantees and membership duration, Riquelme emphasized the need to create a democratic alternative. He believes that even if his candidacy does not win, the ideas he is proposing should serve to improve the quality of the club.
