Uzbekistan Senate strengthens protection of women's and children's rights

At the 15th plenary session of the Senate, a law was reviewed regarding amendments and additions to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan aimed at further strengthening guarantees of children's rights and improving the system for protecting women who are victims of harassment and violence. This document is a logical continuation of reforms aimed at honoring human dignity and protecting the interests of women and children in our country. Uzdaily.uz reports.

The law establishes the legal status of the concept of the “best interests of the child.” According to amendments to the Family Code, when any issue concerning a child's interests is considered within a family, the child has the right to freely express their opinion.

Furthermore, the powers of state bodies to protect women who are victims of harassment and violence have been expanded. The National Agency for Social Protection is granted the right to file lawsuits in the interests of victims without paying state fees and to participate in court hearings through a representative.

In addition, social guarantees related to placing victims of harassment and violence in special centers have been clarified. Specifically, the period of up to one month that a victim spends in a special center serves as grounds for issuing a temporary disability certificate. Senate members approved this law.
