New rules for alcohol sales to be introduced in Uzbekistan

In Uzbekistan, it is planned to allow the sale of alcohol and tobacco products for cash in cafes, restaurants, and hotels. This was announced on May 26 during a presentation by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev aimed at supporting small business entities.

The presentation noted that a number of relaxations are proposed for the catering and hotel sectors. These include allowing the sale of alcohol and tobacco for cash, abolishing requirements for the share of non-cash revenue in VAT refunds, and simplifying the process of registering employees.

Experts believe these measures could support the development of over 600,000 small businesses. This is expected to increase tax system transparency and generate up to 2 trillion soums in additional annual revenue for the state budget.

The head of state approved these proposals and instructed officials to create more favorable and fair conditions for entrepreneurs, simplify tax administration, and accelerate digitalization.

Additionally, according to previously adopted decisions, certain large payments must be made exclusively in non-cash form, a system designed to ensure the transparency of financial flows.
