Why Do Ficus Leaves Turn Yellow and Fall Off?

It is normal for a Ficus Benjamina to shed its leaves during the autumn and winter months, and this should not be a cause for concern.

However, if the leaves turn yellow, there might be several reasons: exposure to direct sunlight, improper watering (either too much or too little), pests, or diseases (most commonly root rot). It is crucial to inspect the plant carefully, determine the cause, and take appropriate action.

Ficus plants dislike dry soil. During the active growth period (spring and summer), they should be watered once a week to keep the soil moderately moist. From October to March, watering should be reduced to once every 10 days. Excess water should always be drained from the saucer to prevent root rot.

Being a tropical plant, the ficus thrives in humidity. Regularly misting small-leaved varieties or wiping large leaves with a damp cloth helps maintain their health. In winter, using a humidifier can prevent leaf drying due to indoor heating.
