In recent days, an unusual theft attempt in the capital has attracted the attention of the general public. This time, the theft was not carried out in the traditional way, but through the roof.

According to available information, the incident occurred in one of the shops located on Choshtepa Street in the Sergeli district of Tashkent. In mid-July 2025, the shop's alarm went off at night, and the rapid response service was notified.

Officers of the law enforcement agencies who arrived at the scene shortly after managed to detain a masked man. Using special tools, he had broken through the roof of the shop, entered inside, and attempted to steal the tobacco products stored there.

According to his plan, he intended to take out three large polyethylene bags containing 300 packs of cigarettes. However, he was unlucky — at that moment, a patrol group arrived at the scene and detained the offender.

The shop owner, who was called to the scene, stated that this was not the first such incident. According to him, two previous theft attempts had occurred. After the first one, surveillance cameras were installed, but during the second, due to masks and gloves, the criminals could not be identified.

“Cameras do not always deliver the expected result. This time, I protected my shop by connecting it to a security console. Thanks to the triggered alarm, we managed to prevent the crime. I advise all entrepreneurs to install such systems — alarms are more effective than cameras,” said the shop owner.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 169 (Theft) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Investigative actions have begun, and the identity of the suspect, the number of crimes committed by him, and possible accomplices are being investigated.

Law enforcement agencies emphasize that such cases are becoming more frequent and recommend that entrepreneurs equip their shops technically, using video surveillance, alarm systems, and security consoles.

At the same time, the public is urged not to remain indifferent if witnessing unlawful acts and to immediately call 102. This helps ensure not only personal property but also public safety.

It should be noted that in recent months, the demand for tobacco products has increased, and some criminals are considering them a primary “loot”. This issue is under special attention by law enforcement.

Currently, the suspect has been taken into custody and has admitted his actions during the investigation. Relevant examinations have been assigned, and the market value of the stolen goods and the damage caused are being assessed.

Investigative procedures are ongoing. If the offender appears before the court in accordance with the law, he may face several years of imprisonment. The goal is to prevent impunity and serve as a lesson to others.
