Why is Magnus Carlsen asking the FIDE president to resign?

Five-time world chess champion, Swedish chess player Magnus Carlsen has appealed to FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich.

"Coercion of players, abuse of power and broken promises.

FIDE President Dvorkovich, on December 19, you sent the following message to my father to persuade me to play in the Rapid and Blitz World Championship in New York:

"I want to convey to you and Magnus: whatever the situation is regarding the recognition between FIDE and Freestyle, it will not have any negative impact on the players. They can decide for themselves and FIDE will not take any negative measures."

You added later that day: "If my word is broken by the FIDE Council, I will resign."

You have broken your promise by forcing players to sign unacceptable contracts. Will you resign now?", the Norwegian athlete wrote on his page on "X".
