According to the information, two senior White House officials said that Washington representatives had prepared a certain “incentive” for their Russian counterparts to continue dialogue on resolving the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. The matter concerns an agreement on the control of strategic weapons.
This proposal is currently being considered in an informal form. The US side is trying to open the door for dialogue with Russia in a new direction, but the process has not yet taken the shape of an official document. Nevertheless, experts emphasize that this idea could be the first step toward a certain easing and possible rapprochement in relations between the two states.
However, the probability that a full agreement on nuclear weapons or its key details will be discussed at the presidential level is assessed as low. This means the issue may remain confined to technical and diplomatic channels for now.
It should be recalled that the main topic of the expected meeting between the US and Russian presidents is assumed to be the situation in Ukraine and finding a solution.
