Ugarov jokes about Curaçao and Cape Verde

Former Zenit player Denis Ugarov made a tongue-in-cheek comment on Curaçao and Cape Verde reaching the final stage of the 2026 World Cup. He shared his thoughts in an interview with Euro-Football.Ru. This was reported by euro-football.ru reports .

According to Ugarov, before qualifying for the final stage these teams should have played a match against the Russia national team. The expert noted that “then it would be possible to test their real strength and see what they are capable of,” and added sarcastically that it is precisely the Russian team that could carry out such a test.

For reference: Curaçao, coached by Dick Advocaat, are in Group E and will face Germany, Ecuador and Côte d’Ivoire. Cape Verde are in Group H, where they will meet Spain, Uruguay and Saudi Arabia.

The 2026 World Cup will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
