Barcelona and Spain winger Lamine Yamal has spoken out about the abusive chants that took place during the friendly match between Spain and Egypt (0:0). The match took place in Barcelona. Around the 20th minute, some of the fans chanted, "Whoever doesn't jump is a Muslim," and some spectators began to jump in response to this chant.
Yamal stressed in his opinion: "I am a Muslim, thank God. Yesterday, there was this chanting at the stadium. I know that this is mainly directed at the opposing team and not at me personally. But as a Muslim, this is disrespectful and unacceptable."
He addressed all fans and reminded them that jokes about religion can lead to insults and racism: "You should enjoy football and support your team, not insult people because of their religion or personal beliefs."
At the same time, Yamal thanked all the fans and expressed his gratitude for their support, concluding with: "See you at the World Cup."
