Special surveillance satellites placed on board Starship

SpaceX's Starship (Ship 39) spacecraft is preparing for its next test flight. Two new satellites installed in the payload bay are equipped with four special reaction wheels. This electromechanical system allows the spacecraft to stabilize and rotate in space based on the law of conservation of angular momentum without consuming fuel. This is reported by Ixbt.com reports .

These satellites will serve as the primary 'eyes' during the upcoming flight. Their main task is to monitor the condition of the thermal protection system under the maximum thermal loads that occur when Starship enters the atmosphere. With the help of reaction wheels, the devices can maintain their orientation with high precision.

SpaceX continues to improve its reusable system recovery technology. Data from these satellites is expected to be crucial for certifying Starship for future crewed flights.

It is worth noting that Ship 39 carries not only Starlink satellite mockups but also specialized surveillance devices like those mentioned above. Due to weather conditions, the Starship flight has been rescheduled to May 21.
