New generation of BMW 1 Series with rear-wheel drive and electric version

BMW plans to introduce the new, fourth generation of the 1 Series in 2028. The new car will be produced in both electric and hybrid engine variants. Through this model, the company aims to attract young buyers in the European market. This is reported by Autocar.co.uk .

Oliver Heilmer, head of compact car design at BMW, stated that the 1 Series is one of the brand's main pillars. The new model is based on the Neue Klasse design philosophy and is intended to compete against rivals such as the Mercedes A-Class and Audi A2 E-tron.

Although many manufacturers are focusing on the more profitable crossover and SUV segments, BMW considers it important to keep the 1 Series hatchback in its lineup. Last year, nearly 200,000 units of this model were sold worldwide.

The new 1 Series will retain its traditional hatchback shape, but the exterior will be redesigned in the Neue Klasse style seen on the iX3 and i3 models. This approach serves to give each model a unique character and attract customers to the brand from a young age.
