Grafana Labs hit by cyberattack and refuses to pay hackers

Grafana Labs, the developer of popular open-source visualization software, has confirmed it was hit by a cyberattack. Hackers stole the company's source code and demanded payment under the threat of leaking it, but company leadership stated they would not submit to blackmail. This was reported by Techcrunch.com reports .
According to the company's initial investigation, hackers gained access to the system via a stolen token that allowed entry into the GitLab environment. Grafana Labs representatives emphasized that this token did not grant access to customer data or financial records, but only provided unauthorized access to software code repositories.
Currently, security measures have been strengthened and the stolen token has been revoked. Grafana Labs noted that its code is open-source and can be downloaded by anyone. Nevertheless, following FBI recommendations, the company decided not to pay the cybercriminals, as this could fund future attacks.
This situation differs from a recent incident at Instructure, where the company reached an agreement with hackers and made a payment. Grafana Labs stated that the investigation is ongoing and further information will be provided regarding the final results.
