Tupolev specialists have completed flight tests of a Tu-214 aircraft equipped with a Russian-made ozone converter. Created by the Kristall Design Bureau, this device ensures reliable protection for passengers and crew from the harmful effects of ozone at all flight altitudes. The press service of the Rostec state corporation reported that the tests confirmed the stable operation of the air conditioning system and onboard safety. The new converter consists entirely of domestic components and is interchangeable with foreign analogues.
Notably, the new device is nearly twice as light as its foreign counterparts. Previously, Tu-204 and Tu-214 aircraft used imported ozone converters that had no domestic equivalent. This innovation allows for technological independence and improved operational performance.
The tests were conducted in northern latitudes where ozone concentration is at its maximum. In the future, the catalytic coating technology is planned to be widely used in the production of other types of aircraft.
