Recently, significant changes have been observed worldwide in the cosmetics and fragrance industry. According to the reputable British magazine The Business of Fashion, the niche perfume market has declined by approximately 3%. This is attributed to the rapidly shifting preferences of modern consumers and the evolving aesthetic values of the new generation, Peopletalk reports.
While exclusive and expensive perfumes were once in vogue, today’s youth increasingly opt for creating their own signature scent by layering several simple body mists. The TikTok trend of “affordable and yummy scents” has significantly boosted the popularity of such products.
Demand for body and hair mists — now a substitute for traditional perfumes — has surged by 50%. This trend is particularly strong among Generation Alpha, those born after 2010. Since they generally lack access to luxury niche fragrances, they turn to more affordable and contemporary options found through TikTok.
Whereas Millennials (1980–1996) and Zoomers (1997–2010) valued branding and exclusivity, Gen Alpha prioritizes practicality, social media trends, and affordability. Instead of buying a single designer bottle, today’s youth often choose 3–4 mists to mix and match daily.
This trend is also visible in Uzbekistan, where body mists and sprays are gaining popularity among the youth. Online stores and mass-market cosmetic brands offer a range of affordable, pleasant-scented options. Given the limited accessibility of high-end perfumes, mists serve as a practical and popular solution.
Experts in cosmetics and perfumery predict that the niche perfume market will continue to decline over the next few years. This is likely to further boost the popularity of mists, sprays, and budget-friendly alternatives.
