The gross domestic product (GDP) of Uzbekistan has been recalculated. According to updated data, the GDP for 2024 has increased from $115 billion to $121.4 billion.
This adjustment was achieved due to the expansion of economic data coverage by the National Statistics Committee and the inclusion of an additional added value of 81 trillion soums. This information was announced during a meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on November 27, which featured a report from the National Statistics Committee.
Additionally, the report noted that the size of the shadow economy, which was 50% in 2017, has been reduced to 35% by 2024. Plans are in place to bring an additional 79 trillion soums out of the shadow, which would lower the rate to 29%.
The Committee reported that thanks to 60 new digital integrations, the reporting burden on businesses has decreased by 27%. The statistical system now automatically receives data regarding online cash registers, electricity and gas consumption, cultivation areas, and crop yields.
The President emphasized that the statistics system must fully cover rapidly growing sectors such as e-commerce, IT services, remote services, and freelancing. He also instructed the transition from manual data collection in calculating the consumer price index to modern IT solutions and artificial intelligence technologies.
The meeting also addressed preparations for the population census, scheduled to begin in January 2026. This process will be conducted electronically for the first time: data will be collected via tablets and monitored using a geographic information system.
Plans covering 9,008 neighborhoods have been approved, and over 60,000 participants have undergone specialized training.
