SGB chief: Uzbekistan faces four key threats

At a Security Council meeting, State Security Service Chairman Bahodir Qurbanov briefed participants on innovations being implemented in the system that ensures the security of border units and the country’s airports. At the same time, he listed four main threats currently considered the most pressing for Uzbekistan.

According to Qurbanov, the security infrastructure is being strengthened step by step. In particular, 42% of the state border has now been equipped with video surveillance tools. In addition, it was reported that 1,117 kilometers of fiber-optic communication lines have been laid in border areas to improve the efficiency of data exchange and оперативная communication.

At the meeting, the SGB chief addressed not only technical equipment, but also real factors affecting security. According to him, under current conditions the following four areas are seen as the main risks for Uzbekistan:

  1. Threat of terrorist attacks
  2. Cross-border risks arising via the state border
  3. Threats related to drug trafficking
  4. Risk of corruption

Officials believe these threats are closely interconnected, and that measures such as border security, control of transport corridors, digital monitoring, and increasing transparency in internal systems are all important at the same time.

In short, the message from the meeting is clear: security is no longer just a post and a checkpoint—it is becoming a comprehensive approach based on technology, rapid communications, systematic analysis, and strict prevention.
