Roma secures victory in VAR-influenced match

In the 12th round of Serie A, AS Roma defeated Cremonese 3-1 in an away match. The game took place at the “Giovanni Zini” stadium.

The visitors opened the scoring through a long-distance shot by Matias Soulé. Evan Ferguson and Wesley Fofana later added goals to solidify the lead.

The hosts managed to score only during added time. VAR intervened twice during the match: canceling one of Roma’s goals and overturning a penalty decision initially given in favor of the home side.

Roma found success in the 17th minute of play. Kouadio Koné approached the goal and passed the ball to Soulé.

The Argentine striker struck with his left foot from outside the penalty area, sending the ball into the bottom corner. Cremonese responded with a dangerous attack through Vandeputte, but Roma goalkeeper Svilar kept his team safe with a critical save.

In the second half, Roma increased their attacking tempo. First, Soulé hit a header that went just wide, hitting the post.

Then, Evan Ferguson capitalized on a well-placed pass from El Aynaoui to score from a favorable position inside the penalty area. Shortly after, Wesley Fofana received a pass from El Shaarawy and delivered a brilliant strike over the goalkeeper to score Roma’s third goal, nearly securing the victory.

During this period, VAR was actively involved, disallowing Lorenzo Pellegrini’s goal due to an offside and overturning the penalty awarded to the hosts. Toward the end of the match, Cremonese increased their pressure through set-pieces.

In added time, the hosts scored a goal following a corner kick. Francesco Folino headed the ball into the net from a Vasquez cross.
