"Atletico Madrid" defeated PSV 3-2 in an away game. During the sixth round of the Champions League group stage, PSV initially took the lead, but the Madrid side seized the initiative and scored three goals.
In the end, the late response of the hosts could not alter the outcome of the match. The opening minutes of the game were dominated by PSV.
The home team attacked through the flanks and tried to control the match with pressing. Veerman took possession in the midfield and initiated a quick attack.
He sent a precise pass to Drious. The forward got past the opposing defender and passed the ball to Guus Til, who sent it into the open net, opening the scoring. PSV continued to press through Suibari and Til.
"Atletico," however, responded with long-distance shots from Barrios and Sorloth. Gradually, the Madrid side balanced the game. Koke began delivering accurate passes behind the defenders. Sorloth and Alvarez gained the upper hand in duels in PSV's half.
A mistake by PSV goalkeeper Kovarj led to "Atletico's" first goal. He miscalculated his pass, giving an opportunity to the opponent. Sorloth took possession but didn’t shoot, instead passing to Alvarez, who sent the ball into the open net.
Before halftime, both teams created several dangerous chances, but "Atletico's" defenders successfully blocked the efforts.
In the second half, the Madrid side increased the game’s tempo and intensified their attacks. During one set-piece, the PSV defenders lost control of the ball.
Molina took a shot, goalkeeper Kovarj deflected it, but David Gantsko was first to react and placed a precise shot into the far corner. PSV attempted to attack again from the flanks, but "Atletico" punished the hosts with a quick counterattack.
Alvarez entered the penalty area from the left and delivered a cross to the far post. Sorloth headed it into the net, making it 3-1.
PSV’s head coach made substitutions to enhance the attack. Perišić brought energy to the left flank, creating several dangerous crosses. Pepi had two shots but missed over the crossbar. In the final moments, PSV managed to score another goal.
Following Perišić’s corner, Pepi headed the ball into the far top corner. The score narrowed to 3-2, and the tension returned.
In the closing minutes, PSV intensified their attacks, creating danger in "Atletico's" penalty area. However, the Madrid team slowed down the tempo and neutralized all threatening situations.
In added time, PSV made their final attempts, but "Atletico's" defenders managed to clear all deliveries. As a result, "Atletico Madrid" secured three crucial points and strengthened their position in the group.
