How real is the threat of the Nipah virus, and can it also enter Uzbekistan?

In India, cases related to the dangerous Nipah virus, which still has no vaccine and no specific treatment, have been recorded again. After this, a natural question arises: can this virus also enter Uzbekistan? On this issue, the Sanitary and Epidemiological Committee of Uzbekistan issued an official statement.

According to the Committee, at present no case related to the Nipah virus has been detected in the country. The epidemiological situation is fully under control. At the same time, specialists emphasize that vigilance regarding this virus should not be lost.

The Nipah virus belongs to the group of zoonotic diseases, meaning it can be transmitted from animals to humans. Fruit-eating bats are identified as the main carriers. The virus can also be transmitted through contaminated fruit or food products, and in some cases from person to person as well. The disease can be severe and may lead to serious complications, including inflammation of the brain and damage to the respiratory tract.

In recent years, cases related to the Nipah virus have been observed from time to time in India. In addition, cases of this disease have also been recorded in some countries of Southeast Asia. For this reason, travel connected with the risk area requires special attention.

The Sanitary and Epidemiological Committee recommended that citizens of Uzbekistan who are planning to travel to India strictly follow precautionary measures. It is important to wash hands frequently with soap, use antiseptics, clean fruits and vegetables thoroughly, and not consume untested water. It is also necessary to completely avoid fruits that have been damaged or bitten by bats.

If symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, or general weakness are noticed during the trip or after it, one should contact a doctor without delay. According to specialists, early diagnosis is the most important step in preventing dangerous consequences.
