Wayne Rooney says Manchester United needs major investment

Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney commented on the state of the 'Red Devils' after their 0-0 draw against Sunderland in the Premier League. He noted that this match once again highlighted the lack of sufficiently strong depth in the squad.
Rooney believes that Manchester United failed to demonstrate the necessary intensity, pressure, and clear desire to win in this match. He said the game looked like a dead-rubber match at the end of the season for both teams.
"Manchester United's play lacked intensity. It looked like a meaningless end-of-season game for both teams," said Rooney.
The former player also emphasized that some of the players who took the pitch failed to fully prove they deserve to remain at the club next season. In his view, this match gave Michael Carrick a clearer picture of the team's true state.
"But did the Manchester players who played today prove they deserve to stay at the club next season? Maybe not," he added.
Rooney stressed that Manchester United must work seriously during the summer transfer window to compete in the Champions League. He believes the team needs quality and major investment, not just a few cosmetic changes.
"For Michael Carrick, this has become clear. Next summer, major investment is needed for the team to be able to compete in the Champions League," said Rooney.
Indeed, for a club like Manchester United, simple stability is not enough. This team must fight for top spots, trophies, and serious results in Europe every season. But for that, squad depth, quality on the bench, and competition in every position are essential.
The draw against Sunderland once again exposed the problems. The team is not sharp enough in attack, struggles to increase the tempo, and substitutes do not always make a difference.
Now Carrick and the club's management face an important task: making the right decisions in the summer, strengthening the squad, and returning Manchester United to the big stage. Fans are patient, but at Old Trafford, patience is not as infinite as a season ticket.
