Famous director Paul King, the creative mind behind audience-favorite films like “Wonka” and “Paddington,” is embarking on his next major project. This time, he will produce a full-length film about the character known as Labubu. This initial information about the project was reported by Variety.
According to reports, the film's production will be handled by Sony Pictures Studios. Paul King will serve not only as the director but also as the producer of this film. This role allows him to fully infuse the project with his unique creative style and humor-driven perspective.
The director’s previous films have achieved significant success at the global box office. His works have collectively grossed more than $1.1 billion worldwide. Variety’s analysts note that following the massive success of films like “Barbie” and “Minecraft,” Hollywood studios are taking a more serious approach to turning popular toys and characters into cinematic franchises.
Labubu toys are produced by China’s Pop Mart company. The character was created approximately a decade ago by artist Kasing Lung, incorporating elements of Dutch folklore and spiritual motifs. Today, Labubu is recognized not only as a toy but also as one of the prominent symbols in contemporary pop culture. Therefore, its debut on the big screen is undoubtedly anticipated as an exciting event for fans.
