"Bloody Rain": A unique phenomenon was observed on an island in Iran

A rare natural phenomenon was observed on Hormuz Island, located in Iran’s Strait of Hormuz. On December 16, heavy rainfall turned the island’s coastline and shallow sea waters red, causing a major stir on social media.

In the area known locally as the “Red Beach,” rainwater washed iron-rich mineral soil from the slopes into the sea. As a result, both the sand and the water took on a bright crimson color, creating a truly spectacular scene. Videos and photos of the event quickly spread across Instagram and other platforms, drawing the attention of thousands of users.

According to experts, the phenomenon is linked to the island’s unique geology. Hormuz Island is famous for its red soil rich in iron oxide, locally known as “golak.” During heavy rains, these minerals are washed away by water and spread along the coast and into the sea. Therefore, although some sources refer to the event as “bloody rain,” it involves no biological substances or hazardous elements.

Hormuz Island, also known as the “Rainbow Island,” attracts tourists year-round with its multicolored soils, rugged coastlines, and historical landmarks. During rainy days, the Red Beach takes on an even more mysterious and captivating appearance.
