Shavkat Mirziyoyev meets with leaders of Japan's prominent companies

As part of the business agenda during President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s official visit to Tokyo, Japan, he met with Akihiko Tanaka, the President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The meeting discussed expanding extensive cooperation with this leading Japanese financial institution and practical aspects of advancing joint projects. New agreements were signed to develop economic zones, support agriculture, supply medical equipment, and promote entrepreneurship.

The parties expressed readiness to quickly implement the project to establish a special economic zone for Japanese investors. Concluding the meeting, the head of state emphasized the importance of preparing projects under the New Cooperation Program with JICA through 2030 and ensuring the sustainability of their outcomes.

Additionally, Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with Masayoshi Fujimoto and Kosuke Uemura, executives of “Sojitz Corporation.”

The discussions centered on expanding cooperation with this leading Japanese company and defining key directions for implementing joint projects. Considering the growing demand for electricity, the significance of expediting the construction of a combined cycle gas plant in the Syrdarya region was highlighted.

Special attention was given to priority projects such as a multi-purpose hospital, a new international airport in Tashkent, and a wind power plant. Further initiatives included modernizing medical clinics and preschool and school education institutions, establishing a transboundary "green" energy corridor, upgrading gas compressor stations across Uzbekistan, and involving the corporation in creating a special economic zone for Japanese investors.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev also met with Ichiro Takahara and Jun Inomata, executives of Japan’s “JOGMEC” and “ITOCHU” organizations.

Discussions focused on expanding cooperation and implementing joint projects using Japan’s cutting-edge technologies. The participation of “JOGMEC” and “ITOCHU Corporation” in developing uranium deposits in the Navoi and Kashkadarya regions was highly commended. Plans for extracting precious metals from promising sites across Uzbekistan were reviewed.

Uzbekistan and “ITOCHU” Corporation have long-standing experience in cooperation in mechanical engineering, geology, and infrastructure sectors. It was noted with satisfaction that long-term agreements had been reached to export critical minerals to Japan. Emphasis was placed on new directions of partnership, including water purification, automotive manufacturing, air traffic management system modernization, and public-private partnership projects in the social sector.

Later, Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Shingo Ueno, President of “Sumitomo Corporation,” during business events in Tokyo.

The meeting discussed further developing strategic partnerships and implementing joint energy and industrial sector projects. The commencement of construction for two solar power plants and energy storage systems in the Samarkand region was welcomed.

It was stressed that a similar project involving wind power stations and storage capacities in the Republic of Karakalpakstan should be implemented promptly. Agreements were reached on producing ultra-high-voltage cable products and participating in the modernization of emergency medical vehicle fleets. Concluding the meeting, the head of state proposed adopting a cooperation program with the corporation through 2030.
