“28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” opens in the US weaker than the first film

“28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” delivered a lower-than-expected result in US theaters. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film grossed $13 million in its first three days.
For comparison, the first installment released last June opened with $30 million. Experts say the new film’s box office was affected by the very short gap between releases: the sequel arrived just six months after the first film.
Still, Ralph Fiennes’ involvement and Cillian Murphy’s surprise appearance could help the film maintain a steady audience in the coming weeks. Sony has not abandoned its plan to conclude the trilogy.
Filming took place in England’s Northumberland county and the Yorkshire Dales valley. A massive bone-made temple set was also specially built there for the movie.
