The prison where Oscar Wilde was held will be turned into a refuge for artists

The former prison in the city of Reading was purchased by the Ziran Educational Foundation, Weekend reports. It was in this institution that writer Oscar Wilde served his sentence in 1895–1897. This was reported by kursiv.uz. reports .
The new project is intended to be a safe space for creatives facing persecution and pressure. The foundation plans to open an art center and a boutique hotel here.
The foundation will present the reconstruction concept this summer: under the plan, former cells will be converted into exhibition halls and creative studios. Architects promise to preserve the Victorian-era prison’s appearance, blending its heavy history with contemporary art.
As a reminder, Wilde’s two years in prison later inspired his famous work “The Ballad of Reading Gaol.”
