Russia's Easter offensive: Impact on people's lives in Ukraine

According to local authorities and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, at least ten people were killed, many civilians were injured to varying degrees, and dozens of residential and administrative buildings were severely damaged as a result of mass military strikes by Russia on Friday, April 3.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russian forces used 542 attack drones, 10 ballistic missiles, and 25 cruise missiles. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on Twitter and Telegram, noting that the situation had escalated on the eve of Easter.

“Today I spoke with Pope Leo XIV. Meanwhile, the Russians have again launched hundreds of drone and missile strikes against our cities and villages. We have not had an hour of peace — this is Russia’s response to our proposal for a ceasefire on Easter,” Zelensky wrote.

According to the head of the Kyiv regional military administration, Mykola Kalashnik, private and apartment buildings, cars, administrative buildings and other facilities were damaged in Bucha, Fastov and Obukhov districts. Also, about 20 animals died in a veterinary clinic as a result of the Russian attack.

On April 3, an air bomb was dropped on the city of Kramatorsk in Donetsk region, killing at least two people and injuring three others. Five apartment buildings, a service station and vehicles were also damaged. Seven people were injured in a Russian attack on the Shevchenko district of Kharkiv, two of whom died in hospital.

One person was killed and 12 others were injured in Russian drone, artillery and missile strikes in Dnipropetrovsk region. There were also casualties in Sumy and Zhytomyr regions. According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, 18 buildings, including nine residential buildings, were completely destroyed, more than 100 houses and 55 outbuildings were damaged.

These events pose a serious threat to the lives of the population and the city's infrastructure during the Easter holidays, demonstrating the worsening military and humanitarian situation in Ukraine. For the general public, these strikes have once again revealed not only the value of human life, but also the importance of peace and security.
