Power grids in four regions to be privatized

The power grids in four regions of Uzbekistan are planned to be transferred to private sector management. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced this on December 6 during a ceremony to launch energy infrastructure projects.

According to the plan, in 2026, the electricity networks in Jizzakh and Syrdarya regions will be handed over to the private sector. A year later, the energy infrastructure in Namangan and Tashkent regions will also transition to private management.

The President cited the example of Samarkand region. In this region, the electricity networks are being transferred to the management of a foreign company.

The investor will handle the modernization and management of the infrastructure. It is expected that the engagement of a foreign company in Samarkand will result in annual savings of $20 million and reduce energy losses by half.

It should be noted that the President initiated the construction of 21 energy facilities and symbolically launched 42 projects. "All the projects being launched today serve as a source for sustainable economic growth and open new opportunities for future generations," Mirziyoyev emphasized.
