From February 1: new protection for children affected by violence

From February 1, 2026, an important mechanism aimed at ensuring the safety of children will be launched in Uzbekistan - the professional foster family service. The new system will serve to promptly protect children taken from their families as a result of violence, whose life and health are in real danger, as well as those who find themselves in a socially dangerous situation.
According to legal requirements, this practice aims to create a temporary, but reliable, safe environment for the child. The most important thing is to choose the path of caring for and raising the child in a family environment, if possible, without placing him in state institutions. This is a much milder and more natural way for the child's mental state, daily habits, and social adaptation.
The new mechanism is primarily intended for children in the following situations:
- victims of violence;
- those whose family stay is dangerous;
- those who have lived in socially dangerous conditions.
At the heart of the process of temporary placement of a child is one goal: to create conditions for his safety, stable development, and return to a normal life.
Professional foster families are entrusted not only with providing shelter, but also with such responsible tasks as protecting the rights and interests of the child, providing psychological support, returning to education, and helping to adapt to the community. That is, this is not a "temporary home" - this is a family environment based on control and responsibility, which will support the child until the situation stabilizes.
Importantly, this service is aimed at reducing cases of placing children in boarding schools or other institutional institutions. Because the most correct path for a child is to grow up in a family environment whenever possible. The new system is expected to strengthen this principle in practice.
In conclusion, professional family services are considered an important step towards further strengthening the system of protection of children's rights and social support. This initiative can give the child a practical feeling of confidence that "you are not alone."
