The Secretary General of the Russian Football Union (RFU), Maksim Mitrofanov, gave a positive assessment to the proposal for the Russian national team to play a match in Donetsk. Earlier, the DNR Ministry of Sports expressed its desire to bring top-level football back to the "Donbass Arena" and suggested holding one of the national team's friendly matches at this stadium.
This plan is intended to be implemented after the end of military actions on Ukrainian territory. According to Mitrofanov, this aligns with the goal of organizing national team matches in all regions of Russia.
This issue is part of ongoing negotiations between the RFU and UEFA and FIFA. Additionally, it was previously reported that FIFA and UEFA are considering the possibility of the Russian women's national team returning to international tournaments under neutral status.
Their matches are planned to be held on neutral grounds.
