Tesla Robotaxi vehicles involved in collisions during remote operation

According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Tesla Robotaxi vehicles have been involved in at least two collisions while being operated by remote operators since July 2025. Both incidents occurred at low speeds in Austin, Texas, and there were no passengers on board. This is reported by Techcrunch.com reporting .
Tesla previously informed regulators that remote operators could control the vehicle at speeds below 10 mph. The company stated that this capability serves to quickly move a vehicle out of an awkward situation to a safe area and reduce wait times for assistance.
According to NHTSA, in the first case, a teleoperator took control of the vehicle and struck a roadside metal barrier. In the second case, in January 2026, a remotely operated Tesla struck a temporary barrier at a construction site at 9 mph, damaging the vehicle's front fender and tire.
Tesla, like other companies working on autonomous technologies, is required to report all collisions. While the company previously kept this data confidential as a trade secret, it has now disclosed detailed descriptions of 17 collisions recorded since last year.
