Uzbekistan has expressed interest in hosting international motor racing events, including stages of the Formula-1 competitions, according to the President’s press service. This issue was discussed during talks between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), Mohammed bin Sulayem.
During the meeting, the sides also reviewed matters related to the development of motorsport. It is planned to involve the FIA University for training Uzbek engineers, mechanics, and racers.
Mirziyoyev and bin Sulayem emphasized the necessity of creating modern infrastructure for motorsport in Uzbekistan. The country has been actively participating in the federation’s activities since 2019.
Last year, Samarqand hosted the FIA’s 120th-anniversary Jubilee General Assembly. On December 12 of this year, an award ceremony for the best racers is scheduled to take place at the Humo Arena complex.
