Road negligence caused the tragic death of two young people

On January 9 of this year, a court hearing was held at the Sergeli District Criminal Court regarding a serious road traffic accident that occurred on the night of August 31, 2025. This incident left a deep impression not only from a legal perspective but also from a human one. According to Judge Sherzod Amirov, who reported this to “Xabar.uz,” road negligence resulted in the loss of two young lives. The court verdict concluded the legal aspect of this tragedy.

The accident occurred at 03:20 a.m. on Qurgontepa Street in the Yangihayot district of Tashkent. A 27-year-old driver, J.M., was driving a “Cobalt” vehicle at a speed of 80–90 km/h, significantly exceeding the permitted limit. During the drive, the driver became distracted by his mobile phone, lost control of the vehicle, and crashed into a reinforced concrete pole located on the road divider.

As a result, the lives of two young people were cut short in a single moment. They were a young couple on the verge of marriage, making wedding plans and living with dreams and hopes. However, the driver’s carelessness, excessive speed, and a brief moment of inattention behind the wheel destroyed not only their future but also the happiness of two families.

Forensic medical examination revealed that A.J., who was seated in the front passenger seat, sustained severe injuries to the head, chest, and abdominal areas, along with serious damage to the brain and internal organs. His lungs, heart, and liver were bruised, and his body had numerous abrasions and bruises.

M.I., who was seated in the back seat and was engaged to A.J., was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition and fought for her life in the intensive care unit for five days. However, she also passed away five days later due to the severity of her injuries. Thus, two young people who planned to start a family tragically lost their lives.

During the trial, relatives of the victims stated that this tragedy deprived them not only of their children but also of their future family, hopes, and dreams. Legal representatives of the victims also emphasized that the defendant J.M. provided neither material nor moral assistance after the incident.

J.M. fully admitted his guilt in court and expressed remorse. The court found him guilty under Article 266, Part 3, Clause “a” of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan — violation of traffic safety rules resulting in the death of two persons.

According to the verdict, J.M. was sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment and deprived of the right to drive vehicles for 3 years. The sentence is to be served in a settlement colony.

Judge Sherzod Amirov emphasized that a single second of inattention on the road, especially distraction by a mobile phone, can affect the fate of entire families. Traffic rules are the most essential means of protecting human life.
