Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has spoken about his biggest regret during his 10-year tenure at the club. In an interview with Sky Sports, the Spanish tactician admitted that he did not give former goalkeeper Joe Hart enough opportunities to prove himself.
"I want to admit one thing. Deep down, I have only one regret — I didn't give Joe Hart a chance to prove himself. I should have done that. Sometimes a person makes mistakes," said Guardiola.
Joe Hart lost his place in the starting XI after Pep arrived at Manchester City. At the time, Guardiola wanted a goalkeeper who could play with the ball, build attacks from the back, and adapt to the demands of positional football. Despite being one of the club's key keepers in previous years, Hart could not fit into the new manager's system and was forced to leave the club.
After leaving Manchester City, the English goalkeeper continued his career at Torino, West Ham, Burnley, Tottenham, and Celtic. He retired from professional football in 2024.
Guardiola's admission is interesting for fans, as Pep is usually known for his decisiveness, unwavering tactical demands, and insistence that players adapt to his system. However, this time he openly admitted that he made a human error regarding that specific decision.
