Tottenham leadership admits transfer mistakes

In an open letter to fans, Tottenham chairman Peter Charrington apologized for the club's recent failures and errors in transfer policy. He admitted that the London club had long prioritized commercial interests over sporting results, leading to one of the most difficult seasons in the history of the Premier League. This is reported by Goal.com .

A 1-0 victory over Everton on the final matchday saved Tottenham from relegation. As a result, the threat of dropping to the second division for the first time since 1977 was averted, with fellow London club West Ham relegated instead. According to Charrington, the club had lost its identity and connection with the fans.

A major turnaround began last September when Daniel Levy stepped down after 25 years in charge. Charrington noted that these changes came too late. He stated that the squad was not sufficiently built to compete in the world's toughest league and lacked the necessary specialists in key roles.

The club's leadership also denied rumors regarding the sale of Tottenham. The Lewis family confirmed their full commitment to the project and stated that offers from American technology investors are not being considered. The focus is now on the summer transfer window, where sporting results will be the sole priority.

Charrington promised a complete overhaul not only of the first team but also of the academy, medical department, and women's team. "We must compete with the best teams every season. This season did not meet Tottenham's standards, but we will rebuild the team to regain the trust of our fans," the chairman concluded.
